Avi Lindenbaum
Founder and General Partner

Avi leads Kodem’s investment team with primary responsibility for investment opportunity sourcing and execution. He has 20 years of experience as an investor, advisor and operator having held senior and executive leadership positions at both public and private companies. As a vice president and a member of the executive leadership committee at mktg, (Nasdaq CMKG, acquired by Dentsu) a public communications firm, he advised Fortune 500 companies including: Motorola, Ericsson, Georgia Pacific, AT&T, Diageo, Virgin and others on market entry, product launch, technology partnerships and other strategic initiatives. Prior to mktg, Avi built out a start-up organization within DVC Worldwide, a global services provider acquired by Aspen Marketing Services where he held P&L responsibility for the operating unit he created. As an active angel investor, Avi recognized a gap common to many expansion stage companies pertaining to global market entry and customer acquisition needs. Avi founded Kodem Growth Partners to address this market gap and to leverage the team’s unique market expertise and vast networks of relationships. Avi has invested in the: industrials, software, security and aerospace sectors and has deep experience in building sales, operations and marketing functions.

Edward Zyszkowski
 General Partner

Ed co-leads Kodem’s investment team and has 30+ years experience as a scientist, entrepreneur, executive, private investor, and investment professional with $1.5B in exits to IBM, Google, Boeing and others. Ed served as Chief Technology Officer at Skyview Capital LLC, leading the technology strategy, diligence, and oversight for investments and portfolio companies. Prior to Skyview Capital Ed founded and led Torrent Systems, later sold to IBM, forming the basis of their information server product and ultimately leading to what is now Watson. Ed holds numerous technology patents for big data, AI and machine learning applications across decentralized systems and he serves on the External Advisory Committee of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Dept. of the Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins. Ed supports Kodem and portfolio companies with deal sourcing, deep technical expertise pre and post investment as well as go-to-market and value creation strategies. Ed completed his undergraduate degree and graduate studies in biophysics at the Johns Hopkins University, postgraduate studies at MIT and an MBA at Babson College.

Karl-Theodor
zu Guttenberg 

Operating Partner
NYC/Berlin

Karl-Theodor (KT) zu Guttenberg provides Kodem with strategic counsel and global opportunity identification through his broad network base. He is also Chairman of corporate advisory and investment firm Spitzberg Partners in New York. KT first served as Minister of Economics and Technology and then as Minister of Defense in the cabinet of German Chancellor, Angela Merkel. As the youngest Defense Minister in German history, he led the most significant structural reform of the German armed forces since the Bundeswehr’s founding. During his time in office, KT enjoyed great political popularity. He was a Member of the German Parliament (Bundestag) from 2002 to 2011, served as spokesman on the Foreign Affairs Committee, and was a Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and Secretary General of Germany’s co-governing CSU party. KT is a Distinguished Statesman at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, DC, and served as Senior Advisor to the European Commission leadership on global Internet freedom. He sits on a variety of international corporate and not-for-profit boards. Mr. zu Guttenberg has published numerous op-eds and articles and holds a law degree from the University of Bayreuth. He currently lives with his family in Greenwich, CT.

Ulf Gartzke 
Operating Partner
Washington D.C./Berlin

Ulf plays a lead role in Kodem’s corporate strategy and commercialization activity with a focus on market entry and customer acquisition. He is also Managing Partner of corporate advisory and investment firm Spitzberg Partners in New York. Between 2004 and 2013, Ulf served as Director of the Hanns-Seidel-Foundation’s Washington office, which is the political foundation for Germany’s ruling CSU party, and where he was responsible for relations with both the United States and Canada. Previously, he worked at the World Economic Forum in Geneva and at the World Bank in Paris. Ulf studied political science and international relations at the University of Augsburg, Georgetown University, Sciences Po Paris, and holds a PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is an adjunct fellow at Hudson Institute and teaches at Georgetown University’s BMW Center for German and European Studies. Ulf divides his time between New York City and Washington, DC, where he lives with his Canadian-born wife and four children.
